CHENNAI: More than seven out of 10 children with academic difficulties in
the state have some kind of specific learning disorder (SLD), a pilot study
conducted among school students by Care Institute of Behavioural
Sciences has found. Among them, one-fifth have severe disability making
it difficult for them to write, spell and calculate.
The study was conducted among 1,000 students from three schools
(matriculation and CBSE) in Chennai besides two other schools in Hosur
and Chidambaram. Students from Classes I to VIII were assessed in
English, Tamil, Hindi and Mathematics.
